10 things I have learnt in my first year of refrigerated & freezer trailer hire!

If you told me at the beginning of 2024 that I would be getting excited for taking bookings for hiring chiller trailers out, I might have raised an eyebrow and thought you were mad, however here I am, 15 months into running my fridge and freezer trailer hire business and I have learnt more than I would have ever expected, including how people highly underestimate a woman's skill at reversing a trailer! From late night breakdowns to last minute early morning bookings, this last year has been a crash course in logistics, customer service and the fine art of staying 'cool' under pressure (literally!). So if you are curious about what goes on behind the chilled doors, here is a look into what this Icey adventure has taught me. Spoiler alert...it is a lot more than just plugging things in and hoping for the best.

1. You end up with more keys than you know what to do with.

2. Gaining pretty photos of jobs at venues is practically impossible as we are usually situated in the tradesman's entrance by the bins and skips, or sandwiched between tents and smelly socks at festivals!

3. People of the events world are amongst the hardest working people and some of the most loveliest I have had the absolute pleasure to meet so far.

4. Google ads is a mindblowing experience.

5. When you allow an inexperienced helper to hitch up a trailer for you, you must check it. Being overtaken by your own trailer is not cool.

6. Festivals take hours to get in for delivery, and seconds to get in for collection. By the end of the event, none of the security care who you are or what you have come to take!

7. I have my late Mother's creative flare...who knew!

8. Having great close friends and family is important for cheering you on when you are both mentally and physically exhausted.

9. I can absolutely change a spare wheel, with no man needed.

10. I am now an expert on the most and least user friendly security locks.
